Anzenas Cannonau di Sardegna

Wine Type: Red Wine

Country: Italy

Region: Sardegna

Grapes: 90% Cannonau, 10% native red grapes

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby red in color with light garnet hues as it ages. On the nose it is intense, long-lasting, ethereal, heady, with hints of forest fruits. On the palate it is warm and enveloping, good body with the right amount of tannins.

Food pairings: Serve with roasts, game and mature cheeses.

International Wine Report: “This offers inviting aromatics of plums and dried sweet red fruits, woven together with vanilla, pepper, herbs and hints of raisins all taking shape. On the palate this is medium-bodied, with a lovely soft, velvety texture and a seamless mouthfeel. There is a wonderful freshness, which remains persistent through the finish. Drinking excellently now.”

James Suckling: “Deep aromas of currants and damsons here, together with a rice blend of cinnamon and nutmeg-like spice. Full-bodied with similar flavors and firm tannins that are a little chewy by the end, but there’s bright, red-plum fruit flavor too. The tannins are blunting the complexity perceived on the nose for now, but this will definitely open up soon into a lovely, spicy winter wine. Drinkable now but worth the wait. Best from end of 2024.”
