Les Granges des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Wine Type: Red Wine

Country: France

Region: Rhone

Grapes: 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre

Winery & Tasting Notes: “Les Granges des Papes” translates to “The Pope’s Robe”. Grown from high alluvial terraces, large siliceous pebbles. Crushed and destemmed harvest. Controlled fermentation at 25°C, pumping over and unloading. Long maceration (4 to 5 weeks). Aromas of raspberries, blackberries and blackcurrants with notes of truffles and a spicy finish. On the palate it is complex and full-bodied.

Food Pairings: Pair with red meat dishes, pasta in red sauce, or strong cheeses.

Decanter: “Liquorice, strawberry and herbal nose. Depth and concentration on the palate with grippy tannins. A serious style with a long and intense finish.”

Wine Enthusiast: “An invigorating edge of granite lends angularity to bright blackberry and boysenberry flavors in this full-bodied but freshly composed blend of Grenache and Syrah. It’s ripe but restrained in fruit profile but unadorned by any obvious new-oak influences. Fringed by fine-grained, furry tannins, it’s immediately enjoyable and likely to drink at peak through 2025.”
