TORREVENTO
CORATO, ITALY
A Long Dream Over 100 Years
Built by Federico II in the 13th century, this octagonal castle inspired the Torrevento company logo.
The winery was founded by Francesco Liantonio (grandfather of the homonymous Francesco, who is the President of Torrevento today), who came to the United States at age 16 in 1913 in pursuit of building fortune to support his family back home in Puglia. After selling ice on the streets of New York, Francesco had saved up enough money to return home in 1923. Using the money he saved, he began processing grapes, and producing olive oil. By 1948, he and his brothers purchased a 17th century Benedictine monastery with 57 hectares of surrounding vineyards to increase production & keep up with the demand for their products.
By 1989, Torrevento Srl was born as we know it today. By 1992, they implemented the first line of Castel del Monte DOC wines.
Today, Torrevento manages a vineyard area of over 500 hectares in Apulia.
For more than 20 years, Torrevento has received “Equalitas” certification, as well as approval from IFS Food and CSQA standards, affirming the company and product are produced sustainably from an environmental, ethical, and economic point of view. In 2019, Torrevento received the “Award for Sustainable Viticulture 2019” by Gambero Rosso.
