Boccatone Montefalco Rosso DOC

Grapes: 60% Sangiovese, 25% Barbera and 15% Sagrantino

Tasting Notes: This is not Sagrantino’s younger brother; it is a wine in its own right, with great dignity and much potential. The fusion of traditional grapes, Sangiovese and Sagrantino – along with the precious input of Barbera – ensure this wine has the makings of a future Montefalco classic.

Aging: 18 months in big cask and French oak barrique. 12 months in bottle.

Food Pairings: Grilled steaks or red meat dishes, aged cheeses.

Vinous: “The 2018 Montefalco Rosso Boccatone seduces with a spicy bouquet evoking fresh rose, mint and spiced black cherries. This impresses further with its vibrant personality and crisp wild berry fruits, creating a bitter-sweet appeal as juicy acidity and exotic spices cascade throughout. It finishes structured and firm yet also mouth-watering with a mineral twang that keeps me coming back for more. Boccatone is always a treat, with its zesty blend of 60% Sangiovese, 25% Barbera and 15% Sagrantino. That said, the 2018 takes things to a whole new level.”

James Suckling: ”An opulent red that shows raspberry compote, candied orange peel, roasted herbs and vanilla. Soft and very fruity with medium acidity, round tannins and a plush finish. Drink now.”
