Tabarrini
Campo Alla Cerqua Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG
Wine Type: Red Wine
Country: Italy
Region: Umbria
Grapes: 100% Sagrantino
Tasting Notes: Stony soil, looser and lighter than the other vineyards, an easterly exposure, and aging in large barrels make this Sagrantino the bastion of elegance in Cantina Tabarrini. Cool, relaxed, distinctly mineral, it combines the individual identity of the grape with a joyous but very aromatic complexity. Marketed no less than four years after harvest.
Aging: 36 months in French oak barrels. 12 months in bottle.
Wine Spectator: “A streak of tarry mineral underscores this fresh, full-bodied red, well-meshed with grippy tannins and flavors of blackberry, black currant, dried marjoram, mandarin orange peel and graphite. Dense and chewy, so give this cellar time or air to show its stuff.”
Wine Advocate: “One of three single-vineyard wines, the 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino Alla Cerqua sees fruit sourced from a plot with rocky soils and southeastern exposures. The bouquet is more developed and focused as a result, with clear mineral imprinting behind plump red fruit and exotic spice. This wine is also aged in large oak casks like the others, but it offers a very precise and clean collection of fruit aromas.”
