Tabarrini

Colle Grimaldesco Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG

Wine Type: Red Wine

Country: Italy

Region: Umbria

Grapes: 100% Sagrantino

Tasting Notes: The first Sagrantino, the one that brought Giampaolo Tabarrini initial critical acclaim. The grapes come from clayey, silt-rich soil, well exposed to the South-East, guaranteeing perfectly ripened grapes and a powerful balanced wine that is refined in big oak cask and is marketed no less than four years after harvest. Sagrantino class, dynamism, flavour and depth.

Aging: 36 months in oak barrels. 12 months in bottle.

Food Pairings: Veal or rich red meat dishes, pasta in red sauce, well-aged cheeses.

Vinous: “The 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle Grimaldesco tempts the imagination with a bouquet mixing rich brown spice with crushed ashen stones and dried black cherries. Silky and enveloping, it washes across the palate with textural ripe red and black fruits, medium weight and energetic grippy tannins mounting toward the close. This finishes dramatically long with cheek-puckering tannins clamping down hard, leaving slowly fading violet inner florals and a wild blueberry tartness. There’s a certain magic mix of vintage and house style.”
