Vallee des Aigles
IGP Cotes Catalanes Languedoc
Wine Type: Red Wine
Country: France
Region: Languedoc
Grapes: 100% Carignan
Tasting Notes: The full expression of this grape can be enjoyed while sipping a glass of this wine: black cherries and jammy red fruits, a hint of sweet spices and a touch of garrigue at then end. Long-lasting finish, great balance and refreshing acidity. This wine can benefit from further aging if you are patient enough.
Food Pairings: Wine to be served with a beef or a lamb stew with garden vegetables or a generous piece of red meat grilled on the BBQ. It will be a tasty but unexpected companion with a cheddar frittata or a spinach and ricotta pasta bake.
Robert Parker: “Drawn from several 60- to 100-year-old plots of Carignan, the 2018 IGP Cotes Catalanes Carignan Vielles Vignes spent a year in vat and barrel (a small proportion new), but it remains stunningly vibrant, fresh and unencumbered by oak. Raspberry fruit picks up hints of garrigue, green peppercorns and even floral notes, while the full-bodied palate is silky and smooth and the flavors linger on the finish. Even if you’re not a huge Carignan fan, this wine is almost guaranteed to convert you.”
