Burgo Viejo
Licenciado Rioja Reserva
Wine Type: Red Wine
Country: Spain
Region: Rioja
Grapes: 100% Tempranillo
Tasting Notes: It has a deep ruby red color, clean and bright. One the nose it is frank, with intense notes of ripe fruit perfectly blended with psices, cocoa and vanilla from the combination of American and French barrels where it has been aged for 18 months. On the palate it is sweet, powerful and long, leaving a persistent sensation and hints of plum and toasted bread.
Aging: 18 months in American & French Oak barrels.
Food Pairings: Enjoy with grilled meat, game and mature cheese.
Wine Advocate: “The slightly more modern red 2018 Licenciado Reserva is dressed with a metal label and shows more smoky and toasty notes, hints of toasted sesame seeds and French oak rather than an American oak profile. They look for more ripeness, more concentration and more oak, but more is not necessarily better. For fans of more oaky Tempranillo.”
Decanter: “Aromas of black fruit and bay leaves. The palate is well-structured with notes of rose petals and violets, refreshing acidity and polished tannins. An engaging Rioja with a long finish.”
